Dr. Scott Palmer was recently appointed as a director of Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA). He will serve a three year term, joining TCA board members Amy Adkins, Jimmy Bell, Gary Biszantz, Nadia Sanan Briggs, Gretchen Jackson, Michael Levy, Bob Manfuso, Pope McLean, Jr, Dan Metzger, Ellen Moelis, Herb Moelis, Dr. Jim Orsini, Josh Pons, Dan Rosenberg, Rob Whiteley and Jack Wolf.
Thoroughbred Charities of America was formed twenty years ago as the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) and has raised more than $17 million which has been distributed to approximately 200 equine charities who dedicate themselves to providing a better life for horses and the people who care for them on a daily basis. Each year the TCA holds a Stallion Season Auction as its primary fundraising activity. The TCA funds equine research, retirement and retraining programs to provide a better life for Throroughbreds both during and after their racing careers are over.
"For many years I have admired the remarkable work of the Thoroughbred Charities of America," said Dr. Palmer. "I am committed to the mission of the TCA and look forward to serving as a member of the board of directors."
Thoroughbred Charities of America is the largest non-profit organization of the Thoroughbred industry. The TCA mission is to provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers by supporting retirement, rescue and research and by helping the people who work with them. The TCA differs from most fund raising organizations by the fact that it has only one paid employee with unpaid volunteers doing much of the work. In 2008 TCA granted more than 96 cents of every dollar raised for charities. In addition to regular donations, the TCA also maintains an endowment fund, which will ensure continuity of the annual funding.
