Video Endoscopy
Endoscopy of the horse has evolved dramatically over the years. Rigid endoscopes with a flashlight bulb at the tip were commonly used to evaluate the upper airway of horses in the 70’s. Flexible endoscopes with 110 ac light sources represented the next generation of endoscopes. Modern video endoscopes are flexible with state-of-the-art chip cameras at the tip with bright Xenon light sources. Our veterinarians use state-of-the-art video endoscopy to diagnose disorders of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urogenital systems.
Advances in video endoscopy have formed the basis for development of many minimally invasive procedures in equine surgery in the past 30 years. Dr. Palmer has pioneered innovative minimally invasive procedures in the upper airway, joints and abdomen of the horse, using sophisticaed endoscopic techniques.
